In June 2009, as a public servant and military reservist, MAJ Adam Bushey began to acquire and renovate properties in Syracuse, NY. His purpose was to renovate dilapidated homes to stabilize neighborhoods, spur economic develop and create a healthier community. Using his personal funds and completing the construction himself with the help of friends and family, MAJ Bushey renovated several properties.
However, to truly address the most pressing social issues within the area, it became clear that more was necessary. After learning that there were only 29 affordable housing units in CNY for every 100 that are needed, MAJ Bushey and the rest of Responsive to Our Community’s Board of Directors committed to doing more than rebuilding rustbelt structures. ROC will be a responsible community organization by fulfilling ROC’s goals of community development, economic development and reducing social ills by providing a safe and clean living environment for the most vulnerable in the community. Our missions include:
- Mission One: Vulnerable veterans job skill development training.
- Mission Two: Stabilize and rehabilitate neighborhoods by refurbishing dilapidated homes.
- Mission Three: Provide sustainable, safe, and affordable housing to homeless families who have faced domestic violence.
