In June 2009, public servant and military reservist MAJ Adam Bushey began to acquire and renovate properties in Syracuse, NY. His purpose was to renovate dilapidated homes for the purpose of stabilizing neighborhoods, spurring economic development, and strengthening communities. By putting his personal funds to work and receiving the help of his friends and family, MAJ Bushey began his mission by turning multiple run-down houses into beautiful homes.
However, to truly address the most pressing social issues within the area, it became clear that more was necessary. After learning that there were only 29 affordable housing units in Central New York for every 100 that are needed, Responsive to Our Community’s Board of Directors committed to doing more than simply rebuilding rustbelt structures. ROC pledged to fulfill their goals of community development, economic development, and the reduction of social ills by providing a safe and clean living environment for the most vulnerable people in the community.
